कैटभः N. of a demon killed by Viṣṇu. [He was a very powerful demon. He and Madhu are said to have sprung from the ears of Viṣṇu while he was asleep; and when they were about to devour Brahman they were slain by Viṣṇu].-भा, -भी An epithet of Durgā.-Comp. -अरिः, -अर्दनः, -जित् m.,-रिपुः, -हन् epithets of Viṣṇu; एष मानवि ते गर्भं प्रविष्टः कैटभार्दनः Bhāg.3.24.18; उदमज्जि कैटभजितः शयनात् Śi.9.3. -
