תַּרְעוֹמֶתf. (רָעַם) murmur, complaint, quarrel. B. Mets.VI, 1 אין להם … אלא ת׳ they have nothing but a complaint (no legal claim) against each other. Ib. 76a ת׳ מאי עבידתיה what cause for complaint is there? (Answ. אמר ליה לית לך אל תמנעוכ׳ he may say to him, dost thou not believe in (Prov. 3:27), ‘withhold not a benefit ?) Y. ib. V, 10b המבטל כיס … אלא ת׳ if an agent leaves his neighbors money unemployed, the latter has no legal claim; ib. IX, beg.12a, opp. חייב לשפות. Sabb.56b לא עליך יש לי ת׳וכ׳ (ed. תרעומות) I have no quarrel with thee, but only with him ; Yalk. Sam. 151. Treat. Der. Er. Zuṭṭa ch. Ber.12a בקשו … מפני ת׳ המינין they wanted to read so (recite the Ten Commandments with the Shmʿa in the prayers), had they not long ago abolished it on account of the seditious talk of the heretics (who declared nothing to be essential in the Law but the Ten Commandments); a. fr.Pl. תַּרְעוּמוֹת. טַעֲנָהf. (טָעַן I) 1) plea, suit, claim. Shebu.VI, 1 הט׳ … וההודאהוכ׳ if the claim is for two Mah silver, and the defendant admits the value of a Prutah. Ib. אם אין ההודאה ממין הט׳ if the defendants admission is not homogeneous with the claim (e. g. one sues for wheat and the defendant alleges to owe barley). Ib. 39b כפירת ט׳ שתיוכ׳ the claim of two Mah in the Mishnah means that amount of the claim which is disputed; ט׳ עצמהוכ׳ it means that the original claim was for two Keth.I, 1 טַעֲנַת בתולים, v. בְּתוּלִים.B.
