ערדאות

עָרוֹדII m. (b. h.; עָרַד; cmp. יָרוֹדָא) 1) wild ass. Kil. VIII, 6 ע׳ מין חיה the ʿarod belongs to the class of beasts of chase (v. חַיָּה I). R. Hash. 3a (play on ערד, Num. 21:1) שדומה לע׳ במדבר for he (Sihon) was like a wild ass in the desert; a. e.Pl. עֲדוֹדוֹת. Y.Shek.VIII, beg.51a ע׳ היו נוחרין (לאריות)וכ׳ (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l., p. 67a>, note 70) in the royal arena in Jerusalem they stabbed wild asses (for the lions), and the pilgrims waded in blood; Men.103b עֲרוֹדִיאוֹת (Mb. M. עדראות; Ms. C. ערדאות; Tosef.Eduy. III, 2 עֲרָרוֹת, v. עֵדֶר). 2) a species of lizard. Ḥull.127a; Ber.33a, v. חֲבַרְבָּר.
