    עָטַףI (b. h.; cmp. עדף, a. meanings of Arab, ʿaṭafa, a. ʿaṭaba) to be lax, hang down; trnsf. to droop, faint; to lag behind, be slow. Midr. Till. to Ps. 61:3 עד חיכן … עד שיַעֲטוֹף (ed. Bub. עד שיע׳ לבו) how long must a man remain in prayer? Until he (his heart) is faint. Ib. to Ps. 73:6 ואין יעטוף אלא לשון לידה ed. Bub. (oth. ed. אלא ילוד) yaʿăṭof (ib.) has the meaning of (drooping) giving birth (by homiletical ref. to Gen. 30:42).
