כמס

כְּמָסch. (v. preced.) store-room, cellar (Assyr. כמס, Schr. KAT2> p. 559). B. Bath. 145b עתיר כ׳ rich of stores.

כָּמַס(b. h.; cmp. כָּמַן) to hide, store away. Part. pass. כָּמוּס. Yalk. Ex. 165 הוא כ׳ מעינינו he is hidden from our sight; Pirké dR. El. ch. IIIVL, 5. כּוֹמְסָה.

כְּמָסm. (preced.) subterranean prison (carcer). Yalk. Hos. 532 בתחלה קורא אילוגין … נותן לו כ׳וכ׳ first he reads the charge, then he strikes him (to extort confession), and then he assigns to him a prison ; Pesik. Shub., p. 159b> (corr. acc.).

Till. to Ps. 75:9 (play on כמס, Deut. 32:34) כמוס למאוסים reserved for the rejected (nations; differ. in Sifré Deut. 32 4). Der. Er. ch. II המ׳ בעיניהם those who are despised in their own eyes (think little of themselves); a. e. Nif. נִמְאָס to be repulsive, loathsome; to be rejected. Sifra Bḥuck. Par. 2, ch. VIII (ref. to Lev. 26:44) וכי … שלא נִמְאֲסוּ ושלא נגעלו what has been left to them so that (it might be said) they were not cast away and loathed?; Yalk. Lev. 675 (corr. acc.).
