    אָפַץ, אָפַס(√אף, v. אפף; cmp. חפץ) to press, squeeze, contract.Part. pass. אָפוּץ. Ohol. IX, 3 a gap which was filled with straw או אֲפוּצָה or was made narrower by squeezing the parts together (e. g. pressing the lid down). Tosef. ib. X, 6 אֲפוּסָה a narrowing of the gap by pressing. Y.Sabb.III, 6c באפוצה when the wick is compressed in the candlestick. Ib. V, beg.7b באֲפוּצִים when the vessels are closely packed. Y.Pes.I, 27c top אֲפוּצוֹת.

    אָבַס(b. h.; √אב, cmp. אפץ) to stuff; to fatten, feed (act. a. neut.) B. Mets86b (expl. ăbusim, 1 Kings 5:3) שאוֹבְסִין אותןבע״כ which people fatten with force. Ib. שא׳ ועומדיןוכ׳ that stand feeding as they please. Sabb.XXIV, 3 (155b) אין אובסיןוכ׳ you must not (on the Sabbath) stuff the camel; expl. ib. you must not make אֵבוס בתוךוכ׳ a manger of her stomach (fill up to swelling); a. fr.Part. pass. אָבוּס (= שוֹר). Meg.9a, a. e. (one of the changes said to have been made by the authors of the Septuag.).
