(WP. 2, 308, Pok. 747). After G. Meyer IF 1, 325 as Tarentine to Goth. balgs `ballows, bag' through Messap.-Illyr. mediation. Thus Vendryes BSL 41, 134ff.: to Goth. balgs, Celt., e.g. Ir. bolg, and first from Thrac.; orig. central- or even northeuropean; μολγός phonetically influenced by ἀμέλγω(?).
