εὐ-θηνέω, bis Arist. bei den Attikern εὐϑενέω geschrieben, welche Form die VLL. für die einzig attische erklären ( τίϑημι, vgl. Lob. zu Phryn. p. 466 ff., oder wie τιϑήνη von ΘΑ, ϑηλή), im guten Zustande sein, sich wohl befinden, gedeihen; von lebenden Wesen, μῆλα εὐϑενοῦντα ἄγαν Aesch., der es allein von den Tragg. nur in den Eum. hat, 904; καὶ ἐνδέχεται τὸν μάλιστα εὐϑηνοῦντα μεγάλαις συμφοραῖς περιπεσεῖν ἐπὶ γήρως Arist. Eth. 1, 9, 11; von Pflanzen, καρπόν τε γαίας – εὐϑενοῦντα Aesch. Eum. 868; Theophr.; von der Erde, εὐϑενοῠσα γῆ, fruchtbar, Xen. Athen. 2, 6; von Trauben, Ael. V. H. 13, 1; εὐϑενεῖν τοῖς σώμασι Arist. gen. anim. 4, 6; übertr., vom Hause u. der Familie, μήτιν' οἶκον εὐϑενεῖν Aesch. Eum. 855; von ganzen Ländern, εὐϑηνέειν πᾶσαν Αἴγυπτον Her. 2, 91. 124; τοὺς στρατιώτας εὐϑενεῖν καὶ εὐδοξεῖν vrbdt Dem. 8, 20 (wie Poll. 5, 159 ἀκμάζειν δόξῃ u. εὐϑηνεῖν vrbdt); εὐϑενούντων τῶν πραγμάτων, im Ggstz von ἐν οἷς ἔπταισεν ἡ πόλις, 18, 286; 19, 231 hat Bekker τὴν πόλιν εὐϑηνεῖσϑαι, obwohl auch dort viele mss. εὐϑενεῖσϑαι schreiben; – gedeihen u. dah. in Menge, in Ueberfluß dasein, von Fischen, Arist. H. A. 8, 19; εὐϑηνεῖ καὶ ἁλίσκεται πλείστη id. – Auch = Ueberfluß woran haben, προβατείαις καὶ κτηνοτροφίαις εὐϑηνεῖν Plut. Poplic. 11; Theophr.; ὅταν εὐϑηνῇ ταῖς μελίτταις τὸ σμῆνος Ael. H. A. 5, 13, vgl. V. H. 13, 1; a. Sp., wie D. Sic. 4, 80. – Das med. εὐϑηνεῖσϑαι mit dem aor. pass., Her. 1, 66 ἀνά τε ἔδραμον αὐτίκα οἱ Λακεδαιμόνιοι καὶ εὐϑηνήϑησαν, in der Bdtg des act., wie in der oben angeführten Stelle des Dem. u. Ael. H. A. 5, 11 u. öfter. Uebrigens wird es in den mss. oft mit εὐσϑενέω verwechselt. Vgl. Lob. a. a. O.
