Scholl. 6, 291 und 262 und Etymol. m. p. 264, 15; Odyss. 7, 49 δήεις δὲ διοτρεφέας βασιλῆας δαίτην δαινυμένους, 11, 115 δήεις δ' ἐν πήματα οἴκῳ, ἄνδρας ὑπερφιάλους; 13, 407 δήεις τόν γε σύεσσι παρήμενον; Iliad. 13, 260 δούρατα δ', αἴ κ' ἐϑέλῃσϑα, καὶ ἓν καὶ εἴκοσι δήεις ἑσταότ' ἐν κλισίῃ; Odyss. 16, 44 ἡμεὶς δὲ καὶ ἄλλοϑι δήομεν ἕδρην σταϑμῷ ἐν ἡμετέρῳ; übertragen: Odyss. 4, 544 ἐπεὶ οὐκ ἄνυσίν τινα δήομεν; Iliad. 9, 418. 685 ἐπεὶ οὐκέτι δήετε τέκμωρ Ἰλίου, vgl. Scholl. vs. 685. – Homerisch gebraucht ist das Wort unter den Sp. z. B. von Diodor. 13 (VII, 370) εἰ δὲ Μένανδρον δίζηαι, δήεις ἐν Διὸς ἢ μακάρων. – Bei Apollon. Rhod. die Formen δήουσιν, δήωμεν, δήοιμεν: 4, 591 ὰλός, ᾗ ἔνι Κίρκην δήουσιν; vs. 1460 ἀλλά μιν εἴ πως δήοιμεν στείχοντα δι' ἠπείροιο κιόντες; vs. 1336 εἴ νύ τι τέκμωρ δήωμεν κομιδῆς. – Ob δήω ursprünglich ein praes. oder ein futur. sei, kann zweifelhaft erscheinen. Hesych. hat die Glosse Ἔδηεν· εὗρεν. In Cram. An. Ox. 1, 122, 24 findet sich die Stelle Iliad. 13, 260 also angeführt: δούρατα δ' αἴκ' ἐϑέλῃσϑα καὶ ἓν καὶ εἴκοσι δήσεις; dies δήσεις mit dem. Σ an statt δήεις ist kein Schreibfehler; im Etymol. m. wird s. v. Δῆλος καὶ εὐδηλος p. 264. 16 von δήω = εὑρίσκω aus drücklich das futur. δήσω aufgeführt. Das Merkwürdigste ist die Form δέω statt δήω, welche im Etymol. m. p. 264, 18 aus Alcäus angeführt wird: ἔγω μέν κ' οὐ δέω ταῦτα μαρτυρεῠντας (Bergh. P. L. G. ed. 2 frgm. 103 p. 728); vgl. Etymol. m. p. 263, 47; Hesych. kennt den infinitiv. δεῖν = εὐρίσκειν, s. v. Δεῖν. Vgl. noch Herodian. Μον. Λέξ. p. 43, 20. Buttmann Anss, Gr. ed. 2 Bd 1 S. 397 § 95 Anm. 20 hielt δήω für ein futur. zu ΔΑΏ »erkennen«, »lernen«, δήω zusammengezogen aus δαέω.
