2. Īo, ūs, u. Īo (Īon), ōnis, f. (Ἰώ), Tochter des argivischen Königs Inachus, Geliebte Jupiters, von Iuno aus Eifersucht in eine Kuh verwandelt und dem hundertäugigen Argus zur Bewachung übergeben. Nach vielen Verfolgungen erhielt sie in Ägypten ihre Gestalt wieder, gebar dort den Epaphus u. wurde mit der Göttin Isis (Gemahlin des Osiris, s. Īsis) identifiziert, s. Ov. met. 1, 588 sqq.
