9 President of the United States
Президент является главой государства [Head of State], главой исполнительной власти [ Chief Executive] и Верховным Главнокомандующим [ Commander-in-Chief]. Д. Рузвельт [ Roosevelt, Franklin Delano (FDR)], Дж. Ф. Кеннеди [ Kennedy, John Fitzgerald (JFK)] и др.English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > President of the United States

10 United States of America
Считается, что это название было предложено Томасом Пейном [ Paine, Thomas]; впервые официально оно было использовано в Декларации независимости [ Declaration of Independence], которая открывается словами: "Принята единогласно тринадцатью соединенными штатами Америки" ["The unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen united States of America"]. ["We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled,..."] (1776). Вашингтона [ Washington, George] в 1791, а аббревиатура "U.S.A." Ныне чаще всего нейтрально употребляется сокращенное наименование "Соединенные Штаты" [the United States], патриоты с долей юмора говорят: "the US of A", иногда добавляя "of ours" = "Эти наши Соединенные Штаты... Америки", а в качестве определения используется сокращение "US" или "U.S."English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > United States of America

11 United States Civil Service Commission v. National Association of Letter Carriers
[Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit] объявил закон Хэтча неконституционным из-за нечеткости его формулировок, но решение Апелляционного суда было впоследствии отменено Верховным судомEnglish-Russian dictionary of regional studies > United States Civil Service Commission v.
