       ◘ 1. 'Recinto en que se celebran competencias o competiciones deportivas': " El estadio está a reventar" (Morena Silencios [Esp. 1995]). El uso del latinismo stádium es innecesario, y se debe más al influjo inglés que a razones cultistas: "Salimos para el stádium El Campín, a ver el segundo juego entre el Millonarios y el Real Madrid"(Che/Granado Viaje [Arg. 1992]). Es inadmisible la forma * estádium, que no es ni latina ni española.
       ◘ 2. También significa 'etapa o fase de un proceso': "Su efecto letárgico y apaciguador iba cediendo paso a una fase de euforia activa, cuyo estadio siguiente era la sed" (Aguilar Golfo [Méx. 1986]).
