  • 46 save

    v 1. спасать: to save smb/smth from smb/smth — спасать кого-либо/что-либо от кого-либо/чего-либо; 2. беречь, откладывать, экономить: to save smth — беречь, копить что-либо (1). Русское спасать кого-либо, что-либо может соответствовать английским глаголам to save и to rescue. Оба глагола используются в конструкциях to save/to rescue smb, smth и to save/to rescue smb, smth from smth, но имеют различные значения.

    The doctors did their best to save the life of the child — Врачи делали все, чтобы спасти жизнь ребенка.

    They tried to save him from drowning — Они пытались спасти утопающего.

    Only his bullet proof vest saved him — Его спас только его пуленепробиваемый жилет.

    I was embarassed not knowing what to answer, but Mary saved the situation by changing the subject of the conversation — Я была смущена и не знала, что ответить, но Мэри спасла положение, изменив тему разговора.

    Глагол to rescue, в отличие от to save, предполагает трудности, часто риск, сопряженный со спасением или устранением опасности, выведение спасаемого из опасного места или положения и соответствует русским спасать, вызволять, освобождать, выручать:

    to rescue smb from danger — избавлять кого-либо от опасности;

    to rescue smb from all the difficulties — выручать кого-либо из всяких затруднений;

    to rescue smb from drowning — вынести утопающего на берег.

    The firemen rescued three children from the top floor of the burning house — Пожарные вынесли трех детей с верхнего этажа горящего дома.

    He rescued the girl from attackers — Он освободил девушку от нападавших.

    John luckily rescued me from a boring guest — Джон, к счастью, выручил меня, избавив от надоедливого гостя.
