Научно обоснованное суждение о возможных состояниях объекта в будущем или об альтернативных путях и сроках достижения этих состояний (либо как о том, так и о другом). Это суждение, хотя и носит вероятностный характер, все же обладает определенной степенью достоверности. Если достоверность является полной, можно применить и термин «предсказание». На практике П. — это документ, фиксирующий возможную степень достижения тех или иных целей в зависимости от способа будущих действий (или отсутствия каких либо действий). Экономические П. делятся на оперативные, краткосрочные, перспективные (среднесрочные и долгосрочные, включая так называемые дальнесрочные). Наибольшее экономическое значение имеют долгосрочные П. Такое деление связано с принятым подразделением планирования на оперативно-календарное (до месяца), текущее (годовое), перспективное (пятилетнее) и долгосрочное. По способам представления результатов П. подразделяются на точечные и интервальные. По методам разработки различаются пассивный П., который основывается на изучении экономических процессов, обладающих большой инерционностью, и целевой, или активный (условный) П., который опирается на систему моделей экономической динамики, учитывающих возможность некоторого воздействия на общий ход экономических процессов (о методах разработки прогнозов см. Прогнозирование).
