GAD! (Gosh!, Guy!)Боже! Восклицание, выражающее удивление, гнев, радость, досаду. Перевести можно и как "Господи помилуй!", и как "Черт побери!" (вспомните у Чуковского: "Моя бабушка ругается все Черт да Черт! А моя все Господи да Господи!").Американцы не любят употреблять имя Божие всуе, и поэтому в этом самом суе, как мы уже упоминали, используют эвфемизмы, что звучит как бы менее грешно. Gad - эвфемизм слова God, т. е. Бог. По тем же причинам говорят "Goldarnit!" вместо "God damn it!", т. е. "Прокляни это Бог!" и т. д.К слову, God произносится "гад", и живущий в Америке автор как-то порадовал коллег рассказом о том, что это слово означает по-русски. Многие хорошие (даже святые!) слова звучат на других языках, мягко говоря, своеобразно (см., например, barf). -
