6 Barley-Corn Weaves
A style of matt weave, giving small geometrical figures, on 6 X 6, 6 X 8, 8 X 8 ends and picks. Much used as ground weaves, because they give a firmness to the cloth. The illustration shows one weave, the 6 X 6Dictionary of the English textile terms > Barley-Corn Weaves

7 Basket Weaves
An extension of the plain weave, both in the length and width, and giving a matt weave; also known as "hopsack weave." When this principle is extended to 16-shafts or more the floats of warp and weft are stitched to bind the design to give a firm fabric, these are fancy basket weaves as used in the woollen and worsted trades. -
8 Diamond Weaves
A term generally applied to all weaves of a diamond character. The example illustrated is on 12 ends and 12 picks, a typical cotton cloth having 80 ends and 80 picks per inch, 40's T., 42's W. -
9 Pinhead Weaves
Common weaves for worsted dress goods and silks giving good effects especially when coloured yarns are used. -
10 Rice Weaves
Fancy weaves formed from the 6-end and 8-end twills. These twills are broken at the middle and reversed. -
11 Soleil Weaves
These are of two classes, plain and ribbed. The plain is formed from satin weaves which are doubled or trebled, giving a very close intersection of threads and producing very strong fabrics. The ribbed is made by adding a plain weave to a warp rib weave, the warp being arranged so that the ribs are alternately right and left-hand twist. The cloths are bleached and dyed for China and other Far Eastern markets. They are made all-cotton or all fine worsted yarns. Representative cloths are made: - Ribbed soleils are a form of ottoman, but have a smaller rib effect. -
12 Art Weaves
The name given to a style of woven fabrics which have been developed in Spain by combining diamond designs as weave in geometrical forms as figure. They are arranged on the sateen order of distribution. The regular satin weave selected as a groundwork and on this are traced the lineal figures required. -
13 Brighton Weaves
A honeycomb effect formed from a diamond style of weave of a more complex form than honeycombs. They are not reversible. The smallest pattern is on 8 X 8 ends and picks, and as many as 16 ends and picks are used. The illustration shows the 16-end weave. This weave produces ridges and hollows. -
