106 hardly
adv 1. В предложении с hardly отрицательная форма глагола не употребляется, но предложение может быть усилено оборотом at all:He hardly slept at all — Он почти не спал.
He hardly said a word — Он не сказал почти ни слова.
Предложения с hardly (и другими наречиями этой группы) часто включают модальный глагол can и слова any, anything, anybody, соответствующие русским почти ничего (никто):He could hardly see anything (he saw almost nothing).
You hardly ever worry, do you?
Past Perfect:I had hardly closed my eyes when the telephone rang — Не успел я сомкнуть глаза, как зазвонил телефон.
