1 -let's / let us-
Nota d'usoLa forma più comune dell'imperativo di prima persona plurale con let è let's; la forma non contratta, let us, è formale: Let's stop here!, fermiamoci qui!; Let us submit to God's will, affidiamoci alla volontà di Dio! La forma let us può anche significare lasciaci o lasciateci, cioè essere un normale imperativo di seconda persona singolare o plurale: Please, let us do our job, per favore, lasciateci fare il nostro lavoro!La question tag dell'imperativo introdotto da let's è shall we?: Let's try, shall we?, dài, proviamo!; «Let's go dancing, shall we?» «Yes, let's», «dài, andiamo a ballare!» «va bene, (andiamo)».Le forme negative dell'imperativo introdotto da let's sono let's not e, nella lingua formale, let us not; specialmente nell'inglese britannico, sono diffuse anche le forme don't let's e, nel registro formale, do not let us: Let's not give in, non cediamo!; non diamoci per vinti!; Do not let us be disheartened by this defeat, non scoraggiamoci per questa sconfitta!
