‘I understand you have some things that you wish to deliver to me personally,’ she said. ‘It's very good of you to bother...’ ‘Please don't mention it,’ I said, rather stiffly. ‘It's all the day's work.’ (W. S. Maugham, ‘Complete Short Stories’, ‘A Casual Affair’) — - Вы привезли что-то для меня.

  • 31 all

    • The interpretation... might be all wrong. ( AC1: 89)

    • I'm all alone, thought Joan. ( AC2: 59)

All too, сходная по функционированию с only too (см.

    • "Structuralism?" said Dempsey... all too eager to show off his expertise. (DL: 22)

    • "I can't conceive what can be said in such a history,' he wrote in November. All too soon he was to find out. (EL: 568)

    • The effects of twenty years' dedication to the life of the mind are all too evident when he puts on a pair of swimming trunks... (DL: 84)

    • "That makes it all the simpler,"... (DL: 216)

•... a question all the more difficult for him to decide because he had no personal experience to draw upon. (DL: 46)

  • 32 all who run may read

(all who run may read (тж. he that или he who runs may read))
Habakkuk II, 2]

Some writers who do not think clearly are inclined to suppose that their thoughts have a significance greater than at first sight appears. It is flattering to believe that they are too profound to be expressed so clearly that all who run may read, and very naturally it does not occur to such writers that the fault is with their own minds which have not the faculty of precise reflection.

‘The whole thing is perfectly clear now,’ he said. ‘The inexplicable disappearance of Mr. Farrington is explained in poster type, "that he who runs may read."’ (E. Wallace, ‘The Secret House’, ch.
