Валютный рынок
Рынок, на котором осуществляются операции с валютами. Функции купли-продажи валют берут на себя частные дилеры или денежно-кредитные учреждения страны, действующие через центральный банк. Основными центрами проведения операций с валютой являются Лондон, Нью-Йорк и Токио. Валютные сделки могут заключаться на условиях немедленной поставки ( на рынке реальных финансовых инструментов) или срочной поставки (на фьючерском рынке) (см. Spot market, Futures market). Государство может проводить политику невмешательства в процесс функционирования валютного рынка, и тогда валютные курсы устанавливаются в зависимости от спроса и предложения (см. Floating exchange-rate system). Однако при необходимости государство (через свой центральный банк) может осуществлять валютную интервенцию для удержания валютного курса на определенном уровне (см. (валютный рынок) Международный рынок, на котором продаются иностранные валюты. На нем действуют в основном дилеры, торгующие иностранной валютой, нанимаемые коммерческими банками (commercial banks) (действующими как принципалы), и агенты по покупке и продаже иностранной валюты (foreign exchange brokers) (действующие как посредники). Хотя многие правительства, включая правительство Великобритании, отменили жесткий валютный контроль (" exchange controls), этот рынок не является полностью свободным, поскольку на него в определенной мере влияет Банк Англии, действующий от имени правительства, который для этого обычно использует счет (фонд) выравнивания валютного курса (exchange equalisation account).
