Fondée en 2000, la société britannique Plastic Logic est spécialisée dans le développement et la production de papier électronique, à savoir un écran souple à matrice active à peine plus épais qu’une feuille de papier. Cet écran aura au départ quatre niveaux de gris et un poids infime de 62 grammes (un quotidien imprimé pèse 375 grammes). Il utilisera la technologie d’encre électronique E Ink. Le fait de plier le support souple déclenchera le chargement d’une nouvelle page. Le téléchargement des livres et journaux se fera par connexion WiFi (wireless fidelity). En janvier 2007, Plastic Logic annonce la construction de son premier site de production de papier électronique dans la région de Dresde, en Allemagne, avec début de production en 2008. L’affichage des données sera en noir et blanc dans un premier temps, avant l’introduction de la couleur en 2010 puis de la vidéo en 2012. -
