There are several varieties of Bass fibres and all are used for brush and mat making. The best known are: - Para Piassava, or Monkey Bass (Attalea piassifera), Brazil. Vonitra, or Madagascar Bass (Dictyosperma fibrosum), Madagascar. West African Bass, or Wine Plant (Raphia Vinifera), Lagos. The fibres are very strong, coarse but smooth, and used for stiff brushes. -
