[греч. oxytoc(ic) — быстрое рождение и лат. - in(e) — суффикс, обозначающий "подобный"]циклический октапептидный гормон (см. пептидные гормоны) задней доли гипофиза, состоящий из пентапептидного цикла и боковой цепи из остатков трех аминокислот. О. стимулирует сокращение гладких мышц матки и в меньшей мере мышц кишечника, мочевого пузыря и некоторых др.
