Примерами модальной информации являются текстовые, графические, звуковые или осязательные данные, используемые в интерфейсе человек-компьютер; например голос/звук, текст (включая URL/URI), графика или видео. Мультимодальная информация может создаваться или быть предназначенной для мультимодальных устройств, таких как микрофон для голоса (звуковой входной сигнал), ручка для тактильного входного сигнала, клавиатура для текстового входного сигнала, мышка для двигательного входного сигнала, громкоговоритель для входного сигнала в виде синтезированного голоса, экран для графического, текстового выходного сигнала, вибрирующее устройство для тактильного выходного сигнала, или устройство Брейля чтения и письма для людей с дефектами зрения.
