П. В зависимости от того, что и как режут используются разные английские глаголы: to slit, to slash, to shred, to slice, to pierce, to chop, to chop up, to mince, to grate, to prune, to mow, to trim, to carve и др.
    Глагол to slit - "сделать тонкий, узкий надрез в чем-либо, обыкновенно для того, чтобы этот предмет раскрыть": when the zipper on my jeans broke, I had to slit them up the side to get them off когда испортилась молния на моих джинсах, мне пришлось разрезать их по бокам, чтобы их снять; he slit the envelope open with a knife and took out the letter он ножом надрезал конверт и вынул письмо.
