[лат. lucifer — светоносный и - in(e) — суффикс, обозначающий "подобный"]ненасыщенные органические соединения, участвующие в биолюминесценции (см. биолюминесценция), субстраты для фермента люциферазы. У светящихся организмов в цитоплазме фотогенных (светящихся) клеток находятся гранулы с Л. При действии кислорода воздуха на Л. в присутствии люциферазы образуется окисленная форма Л. с большим запасом энергии. Переход окисленной формы Л. из возбужденного состояния в основное сопровождается испусканием кванта света. Наиболее изученные Л. относятся к классу гетероциклических соединений (замещенная тиазолинкарбоновая кислота у жуков Photinus, окисленный трипептид у рачков Cypridina, производное индола у морских перьев Renilla), но ими могут быть и терпеноиды (у моллюска Latia neritoides). У светящихся бактерий в роли Л. выступает флавинмононуклеотид в сочетании с жирными альдегидами типа пальмитинового.
