11 Anatolian Carpets
These are small-size rugs or mats made in various parts of Asia Minor. A characteristic is their soft, long and full pile, due to the quality of the long-stapled wool used, chiefly that yielded by the Caraman sheep. The pile is tied in Giordes knot and the designs and colours are in great variety. They have fringes at each end and selvedges at both sides. Narrow and long pieces are also made for stair carpets. -
