A very coarse and open canvas cloth, made for embroidery work. The threads are in pairs with open spaces between to allow the thick wool to pass between. The yarns are two or more fold and very hard twisted. About 10 ends and picks per inch. -

An embroidery stitch composed of three long stitches crossed by a fourth. Also called railway stitch. -

Another style of double plain used for dress materials has 60 ends and 56 picks per inch, namely, 30 ends and 28 picks per inch in each cloth, but one warp is 62's hard spun Egyptian and the other 2/20's mercerised.
