[лат. lac (lactis) — молоко]циклические соединения, содержащие амидную группу (CONH). В зависимости от типа аминокарбоновых кислот, образующих Л., различают β-, γ-, δ- и ε-Л. и т.д. Л. используются в органическом синтезе, в частности в производстве полиамидов; напр., при полимеризации е-капролактама образуется поликапроамид, из которого получают волокно "капрон". Многие Л. — биологически активные вещества (напр., в молекуле пенициллина содержится остаток β-пропиолактама). Первый из Л. (β-Л.) был синтезирован Х.
