This term seems to have been applied, at different periods, to nearly every garment worn by men or women in these islands. A petticoat, safeguard or riding hood, long cloak, long mantle reaching to the ground with a hood to it, that entirely covered the face and usually red, an apron, a jacket and a loose gown. -
