7 officialese
familiar jargon m administratifHowever, five centuries later, it is a matter of debate whether the incomprehensible officialese widely used by the French authorities is any easier to understand than Latin - or possibly, double Dutch. Never use one word when half a dozen will do, appears to be the rule of thumb, and make sure as many as possible are archaic and totally incomprehensible without the aid of a dictionary. But help may finally be at hand. A government body has just been set up with the task of simplifying the language of French bureaucracy.
