1 Hackle
A comb 16-in. long and 15/8-in. thick, an area of 91/4-in. in the centre is studded with steel pins 6-in. to yi-in. long and 5 or 6 B.W.G. Usually there are 11 pins in a row and five rows. Flax, hemp or jute fibres are combed by being drawn through these pins (see Hackling) -
2 Roughers' Hackle
This is a wooden appliance usually of beech, 165/8-in. long by 5-in. broad and 15/8-in, thick. An area of 9-in. by 4-in. in the centre is studded with steel pins 6-in. to 71/4-in. long, and 5 or 6 b.w.g. There are generally 11 pins per row in length and 5-in. width. -
