поверхностный слой животных клеток, обогащенный гликозидными компонентами (гликопротеидами, протеогликанами), который выполняет функцию непосредственной связи клеток животных с внешней средой и со всеми окружающими ее веществами. Г., имея незначительную толщину (несколько десятков нм), не выполняет опорной роли, какая свойственна клеточным стенкам растений. Образование Г., так же как и клеточных стенок растений, происходит в процессе жизнедеятельности самих клеток. В Г. происходит внеклеточное пищеварение, в нем расположены многие рецепторы клетки, с его помощью, повидимому, происходит адгезия клеток.Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
