(GAteway and BRIdge to Europe’s National Libraries)Le projet GABRIEL (GAteway and BRIdge to Europe’s National Libraries) est approuvé en septembre 1995 lors de la réunion annuelle de la CENL (Conference of European National Librarians) à Berne, en Suisse. Un serveur pilote est lancé sur l’internet par la British Library, qui s’occupe ensuite de la maintenance éditoriale du serveur avec la collaboration des bibliothèques nationales de Finlande et des Pays-Bas.
