Aristonic. ἡ διπλῆ, ὅτι παρετυμολογεῖ τὸ τέμενος ἀπὸ τοῦ τεμεῖν καὶ ἀφορίσαι; Lehrs Aristarch. ed. 2 p. 150. Das Wort ist von Hom. an überall häufig; bei Hom. erscheint es nur in der Form τέμενος, ausgenommen eine einzige Stelle, Odyss. 11, 185 σὸν δ' οὔ πώ τις ἔχει καλὸν γέρας, ἀλλὰ ἕκηλος | Τηλέμαχος τεμένεα νέμεται καὶ δαῖτας ἐίσας | δαίνυται, ἃς ἐπέοικε δικασπόλον ἄνδρ' ἀλεγύνειν. Hierzu Scholl. Aristonic. τεμένη: σεσημείωται τὸ ὄνομα ἀδιαιρέτως ἐξενεχϑέν, Scholl. Didym. Ἀρίσταρχος τεμένεα. Also nach Didvmus schrieb Aristarch τεμένεα, nach Aristonicus τεμένη, wegen welcher Form der Vers eine Diple trage. Der Widerspruch ist nur scheinbar; in seiner ersten Ausgabe schrieb Aristarch τεμένεα, in seiner zweiten τεμένη. Aristonicus erklärte überall lediglich Aristarchs zwei te Ausgabe, s. Sengebusch Homer. dissert. 1 p. 34; ob Didymus nicht gewußt habe, daß in Aristarchs zweiter Ausgabe τεμένη stand, ob Didymus τεμένεα für die einzige Aristarchische Schreibung gehalten habe, oder ob man das freilich sehr kurze Didymeische Scholium für ein schlechtes, lückenhaftes Excerpt halten müsse, welches den Bericht des Didymus auch über die Hauptsache nur halb wiedergebe: diese Frage soll hier nicht erörtert werden. Indessen lese man aufmerksam Scholl. Odvss. 6, 54 Iliad. 2, 423. 21, 363. Die so eben gegebene Erklärung des schwierigen Falles vergleiche man mit den freilich sehr abweichenden Ansichten von Carnuth Aristonic. Odyss. 11, 185 und von La Roche Die Homer. Textkritik im Alterth. 299 Ausgabe der Odyssee Anm. zu 11, 185. Höchst interessant ist der Fall auch deshalb, weil Homer oft genug αἴσχεα, ἄλγεα, ἄλσεα, ἄνϑεα, ἄχεα, βέλεα, βένϑεα, γένεα, ἔγχεα, ἔϑνεα, ἐλέγχεα, ἕλκεα, ἔπεα, ἕρκεα, ἔτεα, ἔχϑεα, κέρδεα, κήδεα, κήτεα, λαίφεα, λέχεα, μένεα, νείκεα, νέφεα, ὀνείδεα, ὄρεα, ῥάκεα, ῥήγεα, σάκεα, στήϑεα, τείχεα, φάεα, φάρεα, χείλεα, ψεύδεα sagt, aber niemals αἴσχη, ἄλγη, ἄλση, ἄνϑη, ἄχη, βέλη, βένϑη, γένη, ἔγχη, ἔϑνη, ἐλέγχη, ἕλκη, ἔπη, ἕρκη, ἔτη, ἔχϑη, κέρδη, κήδη, κήτη, λαίφη, λέχη, μένη, νείκη, νέφη, ὀνείδη, ὄρη, ῥάκη, ῥήγη, σάκη, στήϑη, τείχη, φάη, φάρη, χείλη, ψεύδη. Sicherlich ist τεμένη ganz gegen die Analogie; diese war aber dem Aristarch ein Hauptgesetz, während sein Gegner Krates umgekehrt der Anomalie huldigte, s. Sengebusch Homer. dissert. 1 p. 59. Indem also Aristarch das analoge τεμένεα seiner ersten Ausgabe in seiner zweiten durch das anomale τεμένη ersetzte, zeigte er, daß er nicht eigensinnig an einmal gefaßten Ansichten festhielt, sondern stets bereit blieb Gründen nachzugeben und Irrthümer einzugestehn. – Τέμενος eines Fürsten auch Hom.
