[греч. endo — внутри, англ. (mo)rphin(e) — морфин, от лат. Morpheus — бог сновидений и лат. - in(e) — суффикс, обозначающий "подобный"]эндогенные "морфины", нейропептиды с морфиноподобным действием, вырабатывающиеся в ЦНС позвоночных; участвуют в нейрохимических механизмах болеутоления, уменьшают двигательную активность желудочно-кишечного тракта. Различают три класса Э., все из которых содержат короткую аминокислотную последовательность, гомологичную β-липотропину. Э. образуются в результате протеолиза белкапредшественника проопиомеланокортина (см. проопиомеланокортин).
