Производные финансовые инструменты, деривативы
Фьючерские контракты, опционы и свопы, являющиеся производными реальных сделок с ценными бумагами, валютой или товаром. Существуют также «экзотические» производные инструменты (exotics), условия контрактов на которые сложны и необычны (например, контракты на рынках развивающихся стран). В отличие от экзотических, обычные производные часто называют «plain vanilla» (по аналогии с простым ванильным мороженным). Производные финансовые инструменты используются инвесторами для страхования риска, связанного с колебаниями цен, включая изменения валютных курсов и процентных ставок. Их используют также биржевые маклеры в спекулятивных целях. Дериваты свободно обращаются на известных фондовых биржах. В девяностые годы оборот финансовых производных приобрел огромные масштабы, что вызвало обеспокоенность регулирующих государственных органов. Многие опасались, что чрезмерное их использование может представлять серьезную угрозу стабильности мировой финансовой системы. Их опасения оправдались в октябре 1987 г. и августе 2008 г., когда произошло обрушение цен на всех фондовых биржах мира. См.
