    культура. В IV в. Амвросий Медиоланский отверг идею культуры как несоотносимую с идеей Божественного творения и с идеей новизны, лежащей в основе догмата о личном спасении, поскольку отождествил ее с понятием традиции и языческой философией. «Традицию эту, или философию, апостол называет лживой и пустой, потому что она установлена не силою Божией, но от бессилия человеческого разума, которое умаляет Божью силу в своем знании, иначе говоря - с целью не допустить мысли, будто Он создает то, чем держится плотский разум, ибо различие в совершенстве отдельных элементов они приписывают культуре, тем самым связывая души неопытных людей, чтобы те не потянулись к истинному Богу... Те обрезаны во Христе, кто, отрезав от себя культуру всего человеческого предания, объединяется с Христом, обрезанный сердцем, а не плотью... Нужно остерегаться тех, кто, изучая земную мудрость, объявляют достойным почитания то, что сходно по взглядам или очевидно, так что души их, привлеченные культурой, удерживаются связанными под твердью, чтобы не возноситься над твердью к вышним небесам для поклонения Богу всех. Из чего следует, что сие - деяния врага рода человеческого, ибо он всегда удерживает души на низменной земле, там, куда, как он знает, поскольку он симулирует религию, он будет навек низвергнут с небес по праведному Божьему суду... Всяким способом Павел ограждает от надежды на мирское, поскольку она тщетна... Ибо обычай и культура порождают гибель их самих, потому что не от Бога, а от людей эти правила и учения, надежда на которые пуста, так как несомненно, что человеческое заблуждение выдумало их против Творца, ибо такая надежда, уклоняя их от веры в единого Бога, ведет к суеверному поклонению многим богам» (Ambrosius Mediolanensis. Ibid. Col. 429-432). Термин «культура» не был в употреблении в средневековом христианском мире, поскольку он полностью воспринял позицию Амвросия, заключающуюся в том, что «всякий, кто крестится во Христе, умирает для мира, открещиваясь от ошибок суеверий ради почитания единственно веры Христовой» (ibid.). Идея культуры, связанная с идеей совершенствования человека Богом, возможно, впервые после многовекового отсутствия, возникает у Петра Абеляра. В «Диалоге между Иудеем, Философом и Христианином» он пишет о «ревностном попечении (divina cultura), с помощью которого Бог начинает нас усовершенствовать» (Петр Абеляр. Тео-логические трактаты. М., 1995. С.ЗЗО). Негативное отношение к идее культуры в целом было поколеблено в ХШ в. в связи с появлением идеи двух истин. См. CULTUS.
