חָלָלI m. (b. h.; חָלַל) cut all around, beheaded, in gen. slain. Sot.45b (ref. to Deut. 21:1) ח׳ ולא חנוק slain but not strangled, ח׳ ולא מפרפרוכ׳ slain but not rolling in dying agony. Ib. 9:4 ממקום שנעשה ח׳ מצוארו from the place where he has been cut, that means, (the measurement starts) from his throat, v. חָלָל III.
