107 Baling
The process of making up raw cotton into packages suitable for economic and rapid transport from the growing district. Usually the baling is done at the same factory where the ginning is carried on. The bales are formed under hydraulic pressure, and the iron bands fixed while the cotton is under pressure. For usual weights (see Bale). In some districts in India the cotton is sent in loose bales of 200-lb. (about) to Bombay. where it is baled into the larger pressed bales. -
108 Cotton (Call)
Buying " Call cotton " is a method of hedging cotton without any commission for the selling of " Futures." Thus a spinner buys cotton for six months ahead, say, 100 bales each for the months January to June, all bales are bought at a certain number of points on or off for the month of delivery. As he sells yarn he fixes the necessary bales at the " future " price, including points on or off. The cotton is called within a certain date. -
