Уитмена [ Whitman, Walt (Walter)]: стих его свободен, отсутствуют ритм и рифма, преобладают разговорные интонации, близкие к естественной речи. Многие стихи посвящены индустриальной Америке, людям труда, американской демократии (сборники "Дым и сталь" ["Smoke and Steel"] (1920), "Доброе утро, Америка" ["Good Morning, America"] (1928), "Народ, да" ["The People, Yes"] (1936) и др.). Полное собрание стихотворных произведений поэта удостоено в 1950 Пулитцеровской премии [ Pulitzer Prize]. Премия была присуждена ему повторно в 1940 за биографию А. Линкольна [ Lincoln, Abraham].
