    (1867-1948) Ломакс, Джон Эйвери
    Фольклорист. В 1900 начал собирать и записывать народные песни и баллады. Выпустил сборники "Песни ковбоев и другие баллады Фронтира" ["Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads"] (1910), "Песни негров на плантациях" ["Plantation Songs of the Negro"] (1916), "Песни погонщиков" ["Songs of Cattle Trail and Cow Camp"] (1918). Собрания песен Ломакса составляют примерно треть коллекции народных песен Библиотеки Конгресса [ Library of Congress]. В 1934-49 совершил несколько поездок по стране с известным певцом Хадди Свинцовое Брюхо [ Ledbetter, Huddie (Leadbelly)]. Вместе с женой Руби [Lomax, Ruby Terrill] (1886-1961) и сыном Аланом [Lomax, Alan] (1915-2002) положил начало американской фольклористике

    Исполнитель народных песен, собиратель песенного фольклора, а также поэт и композитор-песенник. В молодости участвовал в фольклорных экспедициях Дж. и А. Ломаксов [ Lomax, John Avery; Lomax, Alan] (1938-40), собирая баллады, блюзы, народные песни и спиричуэлс [ spiritual], песни рабочих и фермеров, танцевальные мелодии. Аккомпанировал себе на пятиструнном банджо. В 1940 создал вместе с В. Гатри [ Guthrie, Woody (Woodrow Wilson)] группу "Алманак сингерс" [Almanac Singers], исполнял антифашистские песни, выступал в войсках во время второй мировой войны. В 1948 создал группу "Уиверс" [ Weavers, The]. В период маккартизма [ McCarthy Era] попал в "черный список" за свои социалистические убеждения, но уже к концу 50-х стал часто выступать по радио и на телевидении, записал более 50 альбомов. Выступал с концертами, на фестивалях народной музыки, принимал участие в экологическом движении, движении за гражданские права [ civil rights movement]. Среди его песен: "Куда пропали все цветы" ["Where Have All the Flowers Gone"], "О, дали б мне молот" ["If I Had a Hammer"] и др. В 1994 награжден Национальной медалью за достижения в искусстве [National Medal of Arts]

    Исполнитель народных песен. Был бродячим музыкантом, в 1934 встретил фольклористов Аллана и Джона Ломаксов [ Lomax, John Avery], с которыми в течение 15 лет ездил по стране, собирая и исполняя народные песни, выступал в концертах, играл на двенадцатиструнной гитаре.
