ספחת

סַפַּחַתf. (b. h.; סָפַח) rising on the skin, sore. Sifra Thazr., Neg., ch. I (ref. to Lev. 13:2) ס׳ שני לשאת (not לבהרת) sappaḥath is secondary to (is a species of) seth. Ib.; Shebu.6b אין ס׳ אלא טפילה the word sappaḥath itself intimates an attachment to something (ref. to 1 Sam. 2:36). Yeb.47b; 109b, a. e. קשים גרים לישראל כס׳ בעור proselytes are as bad to Israel as a sore on the skin (ref. to ונספחו, Is. 14:1).

כָּתִיתm. (b. h.; כָּתַת) 1) oil gained from pounded olives. Men.VIII, 5. Ib. 86b אין כ׳ אלא כָּתוּש the Biblical kathith means pounded. (Ib. 53b, v. preced.. 2) pl. כְּתִיתִין (sub. פַּת, v. preced.) bread or pastry made of pounded wheat, delicacies. Midr. Till. to Ps. 15:1; Yalk. Ps. 664 שמוכרין מיני כ׳ וכל דבר (טוב) who had for sale various fine pastries and all sorts of (good)things. 3) (cmp. b. h. ספחת) scab on an animals back from friction. Sabb.VIII, 1 (76b) דבש כדי ליתן על פי כ׳ (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) honey, as much as required for putting on a scab (v. כְּתִישָׁא); ib. 77b, v. מוֹרְשָׁא a. הוֹדְרנָא. Ib. ברא שבלול לכ׳ He created the snail as a remedy for a scab; Y.Ber.IX, 13c bot. שבלון לכ׳ ed. Lehm. (ed. לחזיות, v. חְזָזִית). 4) (also כָּתוּת) compress of rags (cmp. שְׁחָקִים, בְּלָיוֹת); pad. R. s. 13 על הנהר שמְסַפֵּחַ למדינהוכ׳ when a river ameliorates the soil of a district, we say the blessing etc.; Y.Ber.IX, 14a מספיק (corr. acc.). 2) to join, conspire. Tanḥ. Thazr. 11 (play on ספחת, Lev. 13:2) שהיה המן מספח עםוכ׳ Haman conspired with Ahasver to destroy etc. 3) (v. סַפַּחַת) to smite with sores. Pesik. Vattom., p. 133a> (ref. to ושׂפח, Is. 3:17) ואין ספח אלא צרעת sippaḥ means striking with leprosy; Tanḥ. l. c. אינ ושִׂפַּחוכ׳; Lev. R. s. 16 הלקן בצרעת. Nithpa. נִסְתַּפֵּחַ to attach ones self, become a citizen. Ruth R. to I, 1 end שהניחו ישראל ונִסְתַּפְּחוּוכ׳ they left Israel and became citizens in the fields of Moab.
