124 virtue of necessity
= virtue out of necessityСтавшая поговоркой фраза to make a virtue of/out of necessity — из нужды делать добродетель (делать вид, что поступаешь добровольно, когда нет другого выхода) имеет долгую историю. English-Russian dictionary of expressions > virtue of necessity

127 virtue is its own reward
Don't talk about awards to Daddy, or he'll bristle. He believes that virtue is its own reward. (D. Cusack, ‘The Sun is Not Enough’, ch. 15) — Не говорите папе о том, что добродетель вознаграждается.
