"белковый интрон", специфическая аминокислотная последовательность, состоящая из 130—1600 аминокислот, которая самовырезается из белка-предшественника в результате посттрансляционного белкового сплайсинга (см. сплайсинг (3)). И. содержат разные консервативные аминокислотные последовательности (насчитывается более 100 вариантов). И. обладает эндонуклеазной активностью, которая обеспечивает транспозиции в геноме нуклеотидных последовательностей, кодирующих И. Мутантные формы И. используются в белковой инженерии для получения полусинтетических белковых молекул. Термин "И." предложен Ф.
