Largely of the Scottish Blackface type, yielding an uneven, kempy, rough-looking, demi-lustre fleece, even in its best qualities. Mostly used for homespun tweeds and carpet wool. -

This is secured from the decomposed remains of merino sheep on the Western ranges. After scouring it has an old ivory tint and is very difficult to bleach. It possesses unnatural softness. -

A short and very fine pashm from a domestic breed of sheep raised on the slopes of the Himalaya mountains. Used for making malida. -
127 South Down Wool
This is the most valuable of the short staple 3-in. wools, and has a short regular fine fibre with a high spinning quality. Spins about 60's. The average weight of a fleece is about 41/2-lb. It is largely used for hosiery and flannels. The sheep were originally bred in the south-east of England (Sussex) but now are spread all over England. -
