Le téléphone des années 2000 se décline en plusieurs versions. Après une longue carrière, débutée en 1877, le téléphone fixe traditionnel est en perte de vitesse. Lui succèdent le téléphone portable (dit aussi mobile ou cellulaire) et le smartphone (appelé aussi téléphone intelligent ou téléphone multimédia), qui véhiculent non seulement la voix mais aussi les SMS (short message services), le courriel, la photo, la vidéo et le web. Le téléphone internet permet de téléphoner à partir de son ordinateur. Le téléphone WiFi (wireless fidelity) permet d’utiliser le réseau internet passer par un ordinateur.
