Метод искусственного увеличения силы тяжести посредством центрифугирования, обеспечивающий ускорение осаждения (седиментации) растворенного вещества в растворе; скорость осаждения макромолекул является функцией ряда переменных (концентрации, ускорения силы тяжести, формы и размера частиц), что позволяет разделять и идентифицировать различые вещества с помощью М.с.с.; этот принцип лежит в основе центрифугирования в градиенте плотности сахарозы.
