"Форд Тримотор"Почтово-транспортный цельнометаллический моноплан, выпускавшийся компанией "Форд мотор" [ Ford Motor Company] в 1927-33. В его основу был положен проект трехмоторного самолета Фоккера [Fokker trimotor], а для изготовления использовался новый дюралюминиевый сплав [duralumin], разработанный Стаутом [Stout Metal Airplane Co.]. Компания Форда выпускала три модели "тримотора": 3 АТ (1925), 4 АТ - "Жестяной гусь" (1926) и усовершенствованный - 5 АТ (1928). Кабина "Гуся" была достаточно просторна (в ней человек мог стоять), размах крыльев составлял 22,5 м, длина 15,2 м., дальность полета 250 миль; он мог перевозить 12 пассажиров и использовался как почтовый самолет по контракту с правительством. "Тримотор" вошел в историю также в связи с тем, что в 1932 на нем во время сильной грозы совершил перелет из Нью-Йорка в Чикаго на съезд Демократической партии [Democratic Convention] будущий президент Ф. (1893-1943) Форд, Эдсел БрайантСын основателя компании "Форд мотор" [ Ford Motor Company] Г. Форда [ Ford, Henry]. В 1919-43 - президент компании, хотя решающее слово все эти годы оставалось за отцом. Занимался главным образом дочерними предприятиями: приобрел в 1922 компанию "Линкольн Меркурий", под его руководством созданы модели "Меркурий" (1939) и "Линкольн Континентал" (1941). Открыл авиастроительное отделение, производившее известный самолет "Форд Тримотор" [ Ford Trimotor] и во время второй мировой войны бомбардировщик Б-24 [B-24], для сборки которого был создан самый крупный в стране цех. В 1936 вместе с отцом основал Фонд Форда [ Ford Foundation] - один из крупнейших благотворительных фондов мира.
