Stand, I) das Stehen: status. – der St. des Wassers, altitudo aquarum. – der St. der Gestirne, positus et spatia siderum; positio siderum. – standhalten, consistere. stare (stehen bleiben); in loco manere. loco non cedere (nicht vom Platze weichen); hostes oder impetum hostium sustinere. auch bl. sustinere (den Angriff der Feinde aushalten); hostibus resistere (den Feinden widerstehen). – zustande bringen, conficere; efficere; perficere – zustande kommen, perfici: der Friede ist zustande gekommen, pax convenit oder composita est. – einen harten Stand bei etwas haben, valde laborare in re. – II) Ort, wo man steht, locus. – einen sichern Stand haben, in tuto collocatum esse. – wo seinen Stand haben (vom Kaufmann), in alqo loco consistere. – III) Lage, Verfassung: status. – der üppige St. des Futters auf dem Felde, pabuli laetitia. – im guten Stand halten, -erhalten, tueri: ein Haus im guten (baulichen) St. halten, erhalten, sarta tecta aedium tueri; domicilium sartum et tectum conservare: etwas in St. setzen (instand setzen), alqd parare oder apparare (in Bereitschaft setzen); firmare (fest machen, z.B. munimenta, muros urbis): in [2192] den vorigen St. setzen, in pristinum restituere (im allg.); in integrum restituere (bes. in rechtlichen Verhältnissen); reficere. in melius restituere (ausbessern): einen Weg instand setzen, viam munire: die Sache befindet sich noch im vorigen Stande, res integra est: imstande sein, posse: außerstande, nicht imstande sein, zu etc., non posse, non quire, nequire mit folg. Infin. (nicht können, vermögen; s. »können nο. IV« den Untersch.); non sustinere mit Infin. (es nicht über sich gewinnen können): ich bin imstande, es zu vergelten, sum gratiae referendae: ich bin nicht imstande zu bezahlen, non sum solvendo oder ad solvendum: außerstande zu etc., inutilis ad etc. (z.B. zu segeln, ad navigandum [von einem Schiffe]). – jmd. in den St. setzen, etwas zu tun, alci facultatem dare alqd faciendi: jmd. außerstand setzen, etwas zu tun, alci facultatem alqd faciendi eripere; alqm prohibere, quo minus alqd faciat: ich glaubte in den St. gesetzt zu sein, facultatem mihi oblatam putavi. – IV) Rang, Abkunft: locus (die Stelle, die jmd. in bürgerlichen Verhältnissen einnimmt). – dignitas (die Würde, die jmd. vermöge seines Charakters, Ranges, Standes behauptet). – sors (das dem Menschen bereitete Los). – fortuna (die Glücksumstände, in denen wir uns befinden, z.B. hoher, magna: sehr niedriger der Sklaven, infima servorum). – condicio (die Stellung, die man einnimmt). – genus. stirps (Geschlecht, Stamm, zu dem jmd. gehört; dann genus auch = Gattung übh.). – ordo (der Stand als Abteilung von Menschen, die Leute eines Standes zusammengenommen, z.B. ordo senatorius, equester: u. ordo publicanorum, mercatorum). – corpus (Korporation, Verbindung von Leuten einerlei Ranges, Gewerbes etc.). – von vornehmem Stande (auch bloß: von Stande), nobilis: von sehr vornehmem od. hohem St., summo loco od. in summa dignitate natus: von geringem (niedrigem) St., humili od. obscuro od. ignobili loco natus: von sehr geringem (niedrigem) St., infimo loco natus: von höherem St., honestioris loci: von gleichem St. mit jmd., genere alci par: Leute von demselben St., homines eiusdem ordinis od. eiusdem corporis: Leute jedes St., von allen Ständen, cuiusque generis homines: Leute jedes St. und Alters. homines omnium ordinum et omnium aetatum. – mit seinem St. zufrieden sein, suā sorte contentum esse: seinem St. gemäß leben, pro dignitate vivere.
